Michael Moore, the Canadian documentary maker, known from Bowling for Columbine and Fahrenheit 9/11 against Bush, criticizes the American public health system in Sicko. Moore concentrates on the 250 million Americans who have taken out medical expenses insurance policies. Moore argues that the commercialization of the insurance system has reduced them to an outline of costs. He shows how an insurance company denies treatment to a 22-year-old cancer patient because, statistically, she is too young to suffer from cancer. A mother tells how her toddler died because the child had to be taken to a cheap hospital. After an accident involving a saw, a man is compelled to choose which finger he wants to be stitched on: his middle finger (60 thousand dollars) or his ring finger (12 thousand dollars).Prior to the film Ronald Rovers, film reviewer and editor of De Filmkrant, will shed some light on the working method used by Michael Moore.Monday 14 April - 19.30 - 22.30 hours - Filmhuis De Zwarte Doos - Admission: 2.50 Euros with student card, otherwise 7 Euros.
