Persepolis: punk in Iran

The animation movie Persepolis of Marjane Satrapi is about her puberty in Iran. She does not feel inclined to wear a headscarf and detests suppression based on gender. Using clever tricks she misleads her ‘social guardians’ and gains access to a special world of punk, ABBA and Iron Maiden. In Iran Persepolis is labeled Islamophobic. At the request of the Iranian embassy the film was cancelled at the Bangkok Film festival. Western film reviews speak of a humoristic and convincing story about an awkward history. Filmhuis De Zwarte Doos, Thursday 25, Tuesday 30 September and Wednesday 1 October, 20.00 hours.
