The placement of the 102 boxes has taken a week. Subsequently the installation work will be done. The area around the housing units also remains to be paved. Moreover, the space boxes will be fully furnished. By mid-December the foreign guests of the TU/e, who have been accommodated elsewhere temporarily, can move into the housing units.
Nine double space boxes have been placed. “There is a great demand for multi-person units”, says ir. Dennis Raijmakers from the Education and Student Service Center of the TU/e. “All the space boxes have already been rented, for that matter; they were gone right away. These housing units are very popular with foreign guests.” Raijmakers emphasizes that at present there is a dire shortage of accommodation for foreign guests of the TU/e. Recently the TU/e has arranged for one hundred housing units to alleviate this shortage.
In fact, the space boxes should have been ready for accommodation in August of this year, but a ‘point of view’ that had been submitted to the municipality while the application for a permit for the space boxes was pending caused some delay.
The size of the space boxes is eighteen square meters and they come with a private entrance with a living-/bedroom, an open kitchen with a pantry and a shower room with a toilet and washbasin. The two-room versions consist of two space boxes of which one serves as the bedroom with shower, washbasin and toilet, while the other is the living-room with a kitchen unit./.
