First he explores for silver, after which he finds oil. Finding oil is the only thing that counts, and to do this he will let no one stand in his way. His fanaticism translates into a hatred for weakness. The central theme of the film ‘There will be blood’ is obsession. Daniel Plainview (played by Daniel-Day Lewis) is an obsessed man with such willpower that he can almost make oil bubble up from the soil. He becomes a hazard to his own environment.
