The roots of Quadrivium go back to the 1960s and the Eindhoven Student Corps, which has a choir. At the end of 1964 the choir moves on independently and ESMG and the Tunas are born. Not until the 1980s did ESMG Quadrivium as we know it today come into existence, with 135 members: the band Auletes, symphony orchestra Ensuite, mixed choir Vokollage and recorder ensemble Sambuca.
Tom Peeters, commissioner of the lustrum committee, and Erik de Jong, a member of the lustrum committee, harmoniously describe the development of ESMG in terms of growth and professionalization. Peeters: “Not only because of the concerts, also because of all kinds of special projects. One day we made a musical together with Doppio and last year there were the 3TU concerts, during which Auletes played together with the Studenten Harmonie Orkest (brass band) Twente and the student symphony orchestra from Delft. This summer we are sailing on a clipper tour, on the IJsselmeer, whereby we give concerts in nice places.”
Various lustrum activities have already taken place, such as a reunion and the lunch concert of Vokollage and Sambuca. Naturally a lustrum year calls for a spectacular closing, which will be ‘Muziek op de Dommel’. On June 5 there will be a grand festival, featuring musicians from across the region performing from the afternoon until late at night. Admission to the festival is free and in order to make the day’s stay in the festival ground a pleasant event there will be plenty of food and drink available, while seats will be installed around the main podium and the accessory podium. The latter will be used for performances while the main podium is adjusted for other events. (GV)/.
