An easy way to discover nature in Eindhoven is by following the river Dommel. Starting from the campus in a northeasterly direction, you immediately cross the ring road at Karpendonkse Plas, a big pond surrounded by a wood. Follow the Dommel even farther and you get to the woods Wandelbos Eckart and Lage Heide.
If you meander along with the river Dommel in a southerly direction, the Van Abbemuseum is a good starting point. From there the river flows through park-like surroundings, along the Stadswandelpark, under the ring road towards Genneperparken. The Genneperparken is an area with lots of water, pastures and fields. It encompasses the Genneper Watermill, the Environmental Education Center, an ecological farm, a botanical garden and the Historical Village Eindhoven, where a prehistoric and a medieval village have been reconstructed. Life from that day and age is re-enacted, and they regularly organize activities and workshops; indeed, you can even stay there for a weekend.
At the Tourist Information Office (VVV) in Stationsplein and the ANWB shop at Emmasingel you can find more information and attractive hiking and cycling routes in and around Eindhoven. (SK)
