    What's happening?

The organization ‘centro Latinoamericano de Orientación Eindhoven’ (CLO) has existed for more than ten years now. It helps inhabitants of Latin America who settle in the Netherlands for a longer period with their integration. On October 28 the organization will present itself at TU/e for the first time, as more and more Latin American students and PhD candidates decide to stay in the Netherlands after their studies.

Milagros Maldonado is from Venezuela and has founded CLO. “On the one hand we organize Latin American activities in Eindhoven around things that we miss: the food, the culture and the special feast-days. What is important for these activities is that there are both Dutch and Latin American people present. That way you don’t get stuck within the Latin American network, but also get acquainted with Dutch people easily. On the other hand we help people with their integration and provide important information. We have workshops and lectures about immigration legislation, the tax authorities, municipal health care (GGZ), discrimination and identity.”
Oscar Perez is from Mexico and has just graduated from TU/e. Oscar: “When you begin at TU/e everything is great: during the introduction week there are a great many international students, so you get to know people from all over the world. Once the parties are over, though, there is usually a more difficult period. That is when you need to find your way around Dutch life. It is precisely on this point that CLO is making such a useful contribution. They have a large network which enables you to get in touch with Dutch people faster. I find it very valuable to be a member of CLO, so it was decided to introduce the foundation to the rest of the TU/e community.” This will take place in the common room in the Bunker on Thursday October 28.
