“In ‘t Ven in the old Philipsboerderij!”, is the determined answer given by Erik de Jong, a student of Architecture, Building and Planning, when asked about nice eating places in Eindhoven. “They have their own garden, where they get many of their ingredients. The menu is surprising and they often serve ‘forgottenvegetables’ such as parsnip. They also regularly organize workshops around certain ingredients, which gives you the opportunity to try small snacks. The restaurant is located in a farm, with a cozy atmosphere. What’s more, they have a garden facing south!” In het Wasven you are welcome for lunch from Tuesday thru Sunday, and also for dinner during the weekend.

Vincent Smit, chef at the Eurest restaurant in the Auditorium has a tip as well. “Do you know of Vlijtig Liesje? There they serve you snacks with your drinks all night at a price of 21.50 euro per person. These are snacks of all kinds and sizes, so I can really recommend it. As long as you keep drinking, the snacks keep coming as well. It makes for a change in the way you eat, a full evening’s program.”

Finally, we should like to draw your attention to Fonzies Burgers and sandwiches. An American fifties diner like the ones that enjoyed immense popularity in the United States in the 1980s. On old rose chairs and sofas you can sample different kinds of hamburgers and American pancakes, surrounded wherever you look by the characters from the TV series Happy Days. (HB)
