Light your bike for five euros
18 oktober 2007 - As of 5 November anyone riding a bike without any lights will run a great risk of being fined twenty euros. From that day the Eindhoven police will be increasing its daily checks for proper lighting of bikes ‘around student locations’. In order to prevent being fined, students can at the end of this month have new lights mounted in the W-hal, for a bargain price of five euros.

From Monday 29 October thru Friday 2 November a team of bicycle repairmen will be present inside the W-hal to repair the lights of students’ bikes, on presentation of a student card. They will charge five euros for this, and will repair broken lights, or mount a battery-operated headlamp and rear light on your bike. The temporary bicycle repair shop will be open from 12.00 to 18.00 hours. Admission is via the south side (the Helix side), through the big garage door. The price is so low thanks to a subsidy - a lighting set in a proper bicycle shop would cost ten to fifteen euros, says head of industrial assistance and security ing. Mirjam Jahnke. The action is a joint effort by the municipality of Eindhoven, the police and the TU/e. Similar actions will be staged at the ROC and at Fontys.
This campaign forms part of a national one. In Eindhoven the emphasis will be placed on students, because they come within an age bracket alleged to be involved more often in accidents in which lighting is at issue.
