ISN/e has already been busy recruiting new mentors, but there has not been a real run on it so far. Komiha: “We are not looking for a precise number of mentors. Usually we try to build up a mentor base, so that we have a list ready whenever a student or intern asks for it. So in fact it is more a matter of supply and demand. At this moment we only have one mentor and one request for a mentor.”
Most international students have done without mentors. Like Charly Bechara (25) from Lebanon. He is a second-year Master student and is now studying system-on-chip design in Sweden. Bechara: “I didn’t have a mentor nor an introduction when I studied in Eindhoven. That would have been nice.”
“I liked Eindhoven for the large number of international people, the friendly Dutch people, everybody speaking English, the cheap beers compared to Sweden and the beautiful girls.” What he liked less was the weather, the food, and the fact that there was little diversity in the activities. If it is up to ISN/e the variety of activities will be enhanced. Komiha: “We have a number of nice activities in store for our members. The regular pattern will be: one dinner per month, one or two film nights per month, one workshop or activity per month, and a day trip or a weekend excursion per two months. We keep our members posted via the ISN/e-mailing list.”/.
