55th Foundation Day TU/e revolves around cooperation

Thursday April 28, TU/e will be celebrating its 55th dies natalis. From 15.15 hours in the afternoon there will be a meeting at Catharinakerk followed by a reception in Muziekgebouw Frits Philips. The theme for the 11th lustrum of the university is ‘TU/e connects’.

During the meeting in Catharinakerk Rector Hans van Duijn will present a speech about the development of TU/e in the past 55 years as well as the plans for the future. After this Wim van de Donk, Queen’s Commissioner for North Brabant, will discuss the importance of cooperation within Brabant. Traditionally, the presentation of honorary doctorates will close the session. This year honorary doctorates will be conferred on prof. Rosalind Williams (United States), prof. Silvio Aime (Italy) and prof. Frank Kelly (United Kingdom) for their special merits within science. Thursday night will see performances in Markt square because of the lustrum: TU/e party band Connects, party band Lijn 7 and Ilse DeLange are programmed as of 20.30 hours. Ilse DeLange won the Edison award four times for best national singer, among others.

Later this year even more festivities have been programmed around TU/e’s 55th anniversary. Thus, Studium Generale will on May 19 and 20 present TU Odyssey. This is a wandering across campus whereby participants are confronted with cross-fertilization between technology and the arts. (GvdN)

Open day golf center

Golf center Eindhoven is holding an open day, with two free demonstration lessons. Holders of a TU/e sports card can subsequently follow a golf course at a discount. A sports card may now be bought for 30 euro.

Free performance Ilse DeLange

Free performance in Markt square in connection with the 55th lustrum of TU/e. Ilse DeLange is one of the Netherlands’ most successful singers. Party band Lijn 7 and TU/e party band Connects will be playing as well.

The Queen’s Birthday

During the eve of the Queen’s Birthday and on the day itself (April 30) Eindhoven will look totally orange again. There will be dance, hip-hop, salsa, speed rock and more. The complete program may be found on: www.oranjedegekste.nl
