Steve Earle bringing an ode to his mentor

12 november 2009 - One of the world’s best songwriters, the Texan Townes van Zandt, has been dead for many years. Nevertheless his songs are very much alive and are still rendered by thousands of artists. Including Steve Earle, who himself is reputed to be a tremendous songsmith. Earle has recently made a double CD entitled ‘Townes’ and has named his son after his former mentor. On Thursday 19 November this homage will be given a sequel in Muziekcentrum Frits Philips from 20.15 hours. Then Earle will play the gems of the manic-depressive boozer who died in 1997 at the age of 52. (FvO)
