    What's happening?

This year the by now famous Glass House of radio station 3FM will be in Markt square in Eindhoven from December 18 thru 24. The three DJs, who will work in shifts and will be there to see for all, cannot eat, but only drink. Listeners of 3FM can send in requests for money, and throughout the country people will be raising funds for the Serious Request action. The proceeds this time will go to children that have fallen victim to AIDS in some way or other.

What started as a fund-raising drive for children in Darfur in 2004 has now developed into an annual tradition in which many people in the Netherlands and even abroad are taking part: Serious Request. Three DJs from the national radio station 3FM will lock themselves up in a glass house in the week before Christmas, without any food. Their goal: to raise as much money as possible for a Red Cross project. Last year the action yielded no less than seven million euro. This time the money will go to children that have fallen victim to AIDS in some way or other. For instance because they themselves have been infected, or because the disease has robbed them of their parents.

Throughout the Netherlands all sorts of actions have started now. Students in Eindhoven will not be idle either. Thus, against payment you can take part in all kinds of (playful) activities and parties and student music society Quadrivium will give a benefit concert in Muziekgebouw Frits Philips Eindhoven on December 21. The municipality has reserved the 18 Septemberplein during the week before Christmas for all the activities to be deployed by the Eindhoven student community. (SK)

Anyone who wants to do something themselves, can link up with an existing action, for instance one undertaken by a student or sports club, but of course you can also organize your own action. On the website www.seriousreaction.nl you can register your action and you will also find an overview there of what is being done by Eindhoven students. Information about the national action can be found on http://seriousrequest.3fm.nl. On December 24 the drive will be concluded by a grand finale in Markt square; the DJs can come out again and the final result will be announced.
