Shahab also visited the Glow festival recently. “That was great, because of its interesting large light projects. I like the ‘Lichtjesroute’ as well but the shapes are smaller and more common. I think Glow is more creative.” Shahab takes pictures by daylight too. “The bowling pins and the PSV stadium are some of my favorites in Eindhoven.”
Shahab, who lived in Semarang, the capital of central Java, and in Seoul in South Korea before, thinks Eindhoven is rather quiet in the evening. “My first impression was that Eindhoven was a bit boring. The shops are closed in the evening and on Sundays and there are hardly any people in the streets. But I adapted.” Last year she bought a discount card for the railway and now she travels a lot in the weekends to other cities in the Netherlands to see friends. She likes Utrecht, Den Bosch and Amsterdam also because of its historic buildings. “It’s great to take pictures there”, she says.
Another subject in her photographs is nature and animals. “It’s not easy to take good pictures of that, certainly not in Dutch weather conditions”, she admits. Only a few days ago she found out there is a photography association in the Bunker, Dekate Mousa. Shahab: “I would like to join that association to meet more people who share the same interest.” The pictures she takes are for herself and for her friends: “I put them on my Flickr account.” Finally she compares the Netherlands to Indonesia. “I miss the good weather. I could use some extra sunshine, but Eindhoven can’t help that.”/.
