Thursday 18 December:
The last cultural activity at the TU/e goes to De Zwarte Doos. It is there that 2008 will be concluded with the musical film festival Eyes and Ears. Normally it is the image that dominates in films, but during this one-day festival music occupies center stage. Sad, hilarious, inflammatory and melancholy, eyes and especially ears will have plenty to occupy them. The main program, which will take place in the film hall, will be supplemented with documentaries, clips, famous and nostalgic film fragments at various locations in the building. Visitors will not need to go home in the meanwhile, for a nourishing meal can be enjoyed at a modest price. Saturday 20 December:
No money for a skiing holiday? Wipe off your tears. This winter the summer is coming to you. Fancy dress parties, games and a lot of dance music in particular will feature during the campsite disco in de Effenaar. With a real campsite shop, high fashion sunglasses, badminton rackets and sandwiches La Vache Qui Rit. The hall will be stoked up to 28 degrees and emotions will be roused further by Der Kaiser und Der Mann & mc Sanne de Man, Lustige Lola und Weltschmerz, Style Beats Liberation Front, Starla and the VJs Schwarzwald & Herteweide. Saturday 20 December
For the first time the Dutch fado singer Maria Fernandes (see photo) will introduce the fado sensation into concert halls. Since the day she completed her singing education in 2000, packed her suitcases and traveled to the country where fado has its cradle, she has found her second home country in Portugal. With her particular, clear voice she alternates between traditional and modern fado with a distinct character of its own. The ensemble Os Solitários accompanies Fernandes on traditional instruments, the Portuguese guitarra, guitar and bass. A night of ‘Saudade’ the way it is meant to be. Frits Philips music center, commencement 20.15 hours, admission twenty euros.

Thursday 25 December
International Christmas Winter Circus in the Parktheater for the 38th time. Trapeze acts, clowns and animal acts follow quickly after each other in a dizzying show, accompanied by an orchestra. On the grandstand you will be seated in bucket seats. The traditional circus garden has been canceled for this year. If you want to get off your well-filled couch after copious meals, you can make an attractive walk in the wooded surroundings of the Achelse Kluis, near Valkenswaard.
