Letter TU/e about Mexican flu

2 juli 2009 - Now that the Mexican flu (New Influenza A) has been named a pandemic by the World Health Organization, there is increasing urgency at TU/e to take measures. On Friday June 26 the university’s Operational Managers and heads of Department therefore received a letter containing the chief information about the disease. The letter comes from the Working Conditions, Environmental Protection, Safety and Radiation Protection service (AMVS) and the Personnel and Organization Department (DPO).

The letter says among other things what the symptoms are and how you may be infected. It also says what to do if you suspect that you may have been contaminated. In that case the best option is to stay home and contact your GP or the local office of the area Health Authority as soon as possible. The preventive ingestion of virus inhibitors is advised against, because there is no permanent effect and there may be side effects as well. No vaccine is expected until the autumn.

The Education and Student Service Center (STU) will take care that the letter is also disseminated among students, and an English-language version will be available as well. You can also find the letter on the AMVS site (see http://w3.tue.nl/nl/diensten/daz/amvs/amso/).
