Cycling prohibition

3 december 2009 - A 24-year-old student from the German city of Giessen has been prohibited from cycling for fifteen years, on penalty of 25 euros per violation. Last year he was riding his bicycle while drunk and subsequently he refused to cooperate in a psychological evaluation. Last summer Christopher Hahn got hooked by the police after a party, as the German newspaper Bild reports. He had a blood alcohol level of 0.171 percent and had to pay a five-hundred-euro fine. That was not all, however. Just like drunk drivers, cyclists riding their bikes while drunk must be evaluated psychologically in Germany, which costs at least another five hundred euros. The cyclist refused to go along and was issued with a ‘Fahrradverbot’ of fifteen years. He can still ride a horse on public roads, says Bild, but this option will not really get him any further: he is allergic to horsehair. (HOP)
