TU/e ‘not on hold’ for group match Holland
3 juni 2010 - The Executive Board is studying the possibility of organizing something on Monday afternoon June 14th around the first group match of the Dutch team in the World Cup soccer. University secretary ir. Harry Roumen emphasizes that the university will not be ‘halted’ for this.
“I cannot say that everybody is at liberty to take half a day off for this, but I do think that we should try and deal with it in a playful manner of some sort.”

In consultation with Student Sports Center director Wim Koch university secretary Roumen wants to find out whether there are opportunities for enabling students and staff members to watch the match together. “In the Auditorium we cannot do anything anyway, because the afternoon there has been scheduled for lectures and instructions and we cannot just close down teaching activities altogether”, says Roumen.

Wim Koch informs us that football-lovers of TU/e will be more than welcome in the canteen of the Sports Center during World Cup matches. Important matches (such as Champions League matches and the Olympics) are always broadcast live on a big screen; Koch does not exclude that something additional will be done during the World Cup matches: “A small touch of orange decoration and promotion will be added, of course”. The director thinks that the canteen can easily accommodate some three hundred supporters. (MvdV)/.

The match Holland-Danmark starts at 13.30 hours.
