Eindhoven university town via Dommel student flow
1 juli 2010 - On the banks of the river Dommel, between Nederwetten and the High Tech Campus, the biennial Doe de Dommeldag will be held again on Sunday 4th July. Along the sixteen-kilometer-long route the municipality and various other organizations will do their best to attract cyclists, skaters and pedestrians from the tracks. TU/e will also join in again and has therefore organized activities and performances.

Depending on weather conditions, five to ten thousand visitors are expected. The activities are not aimed at research or education, but rather at fun and amusement. For this purpose a podium will be erected near the Zwarte Doos, together with a dance floor in front of it. On this floor a traditional Chinese dance group will present two different folk dances in full regalia. Forty-five minutes have been scheduled for the group to change their attire.

Near the old bridge between Kennispoort and the Auditorium works of art are on display made by Industrial Design students. Tom Kölker has created work out of the contrast between the organic shapes of ripples in the river Dommel and the angular shapes he has cut from fine-meshed polystyrene foam. “I want to surprise the public with planes located in perspective that would normally float apart. By means of connections between the planes I prevent this.” Thus, Kölker is floating a cube, a pyramid and a prism with a hexagon as a base. Alice van Beukering and Ken Giang have built a Fake Whale. The idea is for this big whale to spout Dommel water.
Compositum will allow the public to play around with empty beer crates on the field between the Limbopad and the bicycle track, not far from the Auditorium. They have come up with two contests for this: who can build the highest tower and who can build the most beautiful construction.

At the Student Sports Center three sports clubs will give the public an opportunity to do something entirely different from the usual Sunday activities. Visitors can board a canoe, swish down in a zip line or try to cross the river Dommel via a Red Indian bridge. If you want to stay dry in any case, you can also turn to archery club Da Vinci.
Outdoor sports club All Terrain will construct a Red Indian bridge of two ropes, one for the feet and one for the hands. One by one the brave-hearted can attempt to get to the other side of the river Dommel. A tad less risky may be the zip line, where gravity combined with a good push-off will do half the job. (NS)/.
