Special places in Eindhoven
Truly magnificent view near Eindhoven Airport
4 oktober 2007 - A random Sunday night. Konstantin Youdenko (30), a former twaio (two-year trainee research assistant) of Technical Management at the TU/e, is sitting on a bench on top of a hill. Now and then we see an airplane, but we are here for the splendid view: a beautiful sunset that is over far too soon. “Eindhoven Airport is one of few places where you may still find such a view”, is how Konstantin Youdenko, who comes from Russia, explains the location.

It started by accident. Konstantin was driving around near Eindhoven Airport, he forgets why. When he had missed an exit, he ended up in an area he did not know. “Then I saw those two hills and thought ‘the view from there must be magnificent’. I parked the car and walked up one of the hills. At the time there was no path yet as there is now, and it had been raining. So I was up to my ankles in mud, but once I had reached the top it proved to have been worth the effort.”
It is two to three years ago Konstantin found the location, and since then he has visited it regularly. He does not always go there alone: “A while ago a lady friend of mine went along. She played the violin here for a full hour. That was really fantastic!” Other people apart from Konstantin have now discovered the hill: when the weather is fine, there are many families with children, says Konstantin. He thinks that this is to do with the field lying just in front of the hills: “On fine days there are lots of gliders taking off there, which is great to watch.”
Despite the view one may enjoy from the hills, their existence remains a riddle. They are located in the middle of an industrial area and are not exactly within walking distance of Eindhoven Airport. Could they have been erected especially for the lovers of sunsets or gliders? Konstantin has no idea.

Enjoyment
After his training at the TU/e, where he followed user system interaction as a twaio, he worked for ASML for a couple of years. Now he wants to enjoy his leisure time: “I want to get to know more people and cultures. At the moment I wish to liberate myself from the Netherlands financially, which is why I am trying to sell my car. This money will come in handy for future trips I intend to make.”/.
