International students difficult target group for Recruitment Days
29 november 2007 - The organization wants more participation from international students during the Recruitment Days. This event, which helps students find internships or jobs, is getting sufficient interest: at earlier editions of the event many Dutch and international students registered for the various activities. Unfortunately only a handful of the latter group actually showed up.

Why the international students cry off, is unknown. Steffie Peters, a member of the day committee of the Recruitment Days and a Bachelor student of Biomedical Engineering: “Perhaps the threshold is still too high for international students? Or they are setting different priorities and forgetting that they have registered? We have no idea, but we do find it a great pity.”
The committee member does think that the Recruitment Days have enough to offer for international students. They comprise three different events: the Training Days, the Enterprises Day and the Discussion Days. During the Training Days, from 17 thru 20 December, the lecture on Monday is presented in English, and if necessary the lecture on Thursday will be in English also if participants so indicate. Moreover, every day, except for Tuesday, there is at least one English-language workshop.
In order to enthuse international students for the event, the committee is focusing on this group in particular. Peters: “Prior to this edition of the Recruitment Days we talked to people on campus about the event. In this effort we tried to approach international students in particular.”
This year, students who have registered will for the first time receive a reminder for the workshop by SMS. Whether this SMS will help to increase the number of actual participants remains to be seen; thus, it is not necessary to state one’s telephone number during the registration./.

Information and program of the Recruitment Days can be found through the site: www.wervingsdagen.nl. Registration is possible on the site, the registration period closes on 9 December.
