Lecture Food vs. Energy

14 mei 2009 - It seems as if bioenergy only creates opportunities in the food industry, but is it actually as promising as many would have it? Prof. dr. Andre Faaij from Utrecht University and dr. Prem Bindraban from Wageningen Agricultural University will present their views during ‘Food vs. Energy’ on Wednesday 20 May. One major concern is that bioenergy competes with the food production. Are higher food prices and famine in developing countries due to the increased consumption of bioenergy? Is the earth big enough for food and bioenergy? The two speakers will discuss the problems involved and solutions in greater depth. Faaij will talk about the opportunities for bioenergy and the technological possibilities. He will also look at the story from a socioeconomic perspective. Bindraban will shed light on the subject from a global perspective. The lecture, which is scheduled for 11.45 to 13.30 hours, will take place in the Blauwe Zaal in the Auditorium. For more information: www.studiumgenerale-eindhoven.nl.
