For a whole week 260 students from all across Europe exchanged views, culture and coziness in particular. They did so with each other as well as with distinguished guests. The organizers of the European Week were ‘particularly proud’ of the speaker of Wednesday 27 May: Laurens Jan Brinkhorst. The theme ‘Faces of Europe’ was done full justice through spirited discussions and interesting points of view.

Europe’s Ministers of Education took a cautious step last month in Leuven towards a European quality comparison in higher education. Otherwise, they will restrict themselves to the familiar intentions concerning mobility, quality and recognition of diplomas.

In imitation of the American ‘green card’ there will be a European ‘blue card’ for knowledge migrants. The pan-European work permit must make the EU countries more attractive to highly educated people from outside.

The next few weekends there are no less than three sports events with an international touch. It will not be necessary to work yourself into a sweat, for it all comes down to cheering participants on and sampling the atmosphere.
