Lady professors earn less
1 oktober 2009 - The glass ceiling in science has not been broken yet. There are still few lady professors and they earn less than their male colleagues.

How big the difference in salary is exactly will appear from the Monitor Vrouwelijke Hoogleraren 2009, which is presented today, Thursday 1 October. A press review already states that the share of lady professors has grown by about half a percentage point for many years on end.
The counter in the new monitor is at twelve percent female professors. This is lower than in neighboring countries and is not even half of the Lisbon objective of 25 percent. The proportion of female assistant professors and associate professors is rising faster: from respectively 24 and 14 percent in 2003 to 31 and 18 percent in 2008.
According to professor Marinel Gerritsen of the Landelijk Netwerk Vrouwelijke Hoogleraren there are in principle enough female candidates to replace all male professors that will be retiring over the next few years. However, she did not venture a guess as to when there will be a proportionate number of women in the highest academic profession.
This Monitor 2009 is the third in a row. The reporters also write about the male-female ratio in university medical centers, Executive Boards, Supervisory Boards, among education and research directors, and in KNAW and NOW committees. The proportion is distorted, Gerritsen informs us.
The monitor will be presented during the talent days for female scientists: Pump your career. It is published by Stichting de Beauvoir, the association of Dutch universities VSNU, the National Network of Lady Professors and the Social Fund for the Knowledge Sector (SoFoKles). (HOP)/.
