The 176 Eindhoven sportsmen, sportswomen and coaches participated in all eleven sports featuring at the GNSK and obtained a number of podium places. The men’s football team, the women’s volleyball team and the mixed badminton team won first prizes. The men’s basketball team, women’s water polo team and mixed fencing team won second places. The men’s handball, mixed squash and mixed tennis teams ended third.
A total of twelve cities competed for podium places within the overall ranking. Eindhoven also won the GNSK in 2001, 2004 and 2008. Badminton, basketball, handball, fencing, squash, tennis, football and volleyball are always on the program. The ‘elective sports’ for the GNSK edition 2010 were judo, lacrosse and water polo. Irene Kuling of the Eindhoven Student Sports Federation informs us that it was not entirely unexpected that Eindhoven reached the podium. “Only Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Enschede competed in all sports. It was very exciting in the end whether we or Nijmegen weregoing to end first.” (JvG)/. |
