    What's happening?

    Try out: Van Abbe

Do you have second thoughts when confronted with an admission fee of nine euros for the Van Abbemuseum and are you pressed for time anyway during the day? In that case the free Thursday night from 17.00 to 21.00 hours may be just the thing for you. The museum hosts one of the largest collections of paintings worldwide by El Lissitzky. It also shows works by Pablo Picasso and Wassily Kandinsky. The Van Abbemuseum is located at Bilderdijklaan 10 in Eindhoven. See www.vanabbemuseum.nl

    Slow thriller

The American is anything but a run-of-the-mill thriller. With its slow speed, few dialogues and scarce action scenes the film is first and foremost a psychological study of a man who wants to change slowly. In the Italian Abruzzi region George Clooney plays one of his most taciturn roles ever in a deadly serious and yet romantic film.

    How the Chinese view Eindhoven

Anyone looking at his new place of residence with ‘foreign eyes’ sees things that the locals do not see. And when those observations are displayed visually in a photo, film or drawing, you get special works. The Association of Chinese Students and Scholars Eindhoven (ACSSE) organized a contest about this for Chinese people in Eindhoven. TU/e alumnus Loek Daemen has collated the submissions into one exhibition. It is on display from January 21 to February 4 on floor 1 of the Hoofdgebouw.

    Korean fairy tale

The Angel and the Woodcutter is a well-known Korean traditional popular tale about an angel. She visits the earth and is discovered by a woodcutter and his mother. They rob the angel’s wings and a family life of angel and woodcutter ensues. Their life changes into a nightmare, though. Director Chung-euy Park works the Japanese oppression and the Korean War into this textless physical stage play.
