BMT en ICMS | Ontwerp en maak jij een cel met een nieuwe functie?
Het Massachussets Institute of Technology (MIT) organiseert een internationale competitie voor synthetische biologie. Vanuit BMT en ICMS willen we in 2012 met een studententeam aan de ‘iGEM’-competitie deelnemen. Om ons daar zo goed mogelijk op voor te bereiden, wordt de komende maanden een biologie-project gedaan. Een team van acht studenten zal een idee voor een synthetisch biologie-onderwerp gaan uitwerken – van het ontwerp van het gencircuit tot aan het moleculair biologische experimentele werk.

Workshop TRD70 ‘Dealing with students with a functional impairment’ As a teacher you sometimes have to deal with a student who has a functional impairment. This training focuses on impairments that we encounter most often in TU/e. We discuss the characteristic phenomena of these limitations, the related studying problems, and how to deal with these problems as a teacher.
To illustrate these points, we discuss cases and there is also the possibility to bring up your own cases. Based on this, you receive practical tips that you can use in your own teaching situations.
In addition, there is room for discussions, for example about the boundaries that can or should be expected of a teacher in this situation.
The workshop will be offered on Monday 23 May 2011 from 09.00 - 12.30 hours.

Workshop ‘Course Design’ (TRD04)
This workshop is intended for experienced and beginning teachers who are or will be designing a new course or redesigning an existing course. The workshop is part of the TU/e BKO training program.
Engineers are familiar with the stepwise and iterative process of designing. Designers work in a systematic way within inevitable boundary conditions toward the envisaged end result. Creativity and divergent thinking are essential. In this workshop you will learn to use this approach in education. In the first meeting you are introduced to the systematic process of course design. You will use this approach to design your own course. In the second meeting you will receive feedback on your design.
The workshop ‘Course Design’ will take place on Tuesday 10 May (13.30 - 15.30) and Tuesday 24 May (13.30 – 15.30).

Master class ‘Performance skills’ for TU/e lecturers (TRD60)
From the first moment they step onto the stage, actors know how to capture the attention of their audience. Besides the content, the impact of your lecture on your students, or colleagues at a conference, depends largely on your performance. In this master class you will improve your performance skills. You will be asked to present mini-lectures. You will receive specific feedback and personal instruction regarding your presentation style. You will work with the course instructor on structuring the content of your presentation; verbal and non-verbal expression; your relationship to your students and how to get them involved.
The shape of the Master class will be informed by the specific needs and interests of participants.
This Master class will take place on May 30th and on June 20th 2011 from 9.30 - 17.30 hours.

CantaTU | Lunchconcert personeelskoor CantaTU
Op maandag 18 april verzorgt CantaTU om 12.45 uur een concert in de Blauwe Zaal van het Auditorium.
Op het programma staan een aantal liederen uit diverse Europese landen. Uit de bundel ‘Songbook’, samengesteld voor EuropaCantat XVII worden naast de 4 in Nederland meest gangbare talen ook liederen in het Zoeloe, Italiaans, Deens, Oekraïens , en Retro-Romaans gezongen.
Martijn Willemsen en Martin Boschman, 2 tenoren van CantaTU zullen ook een individuele bijdrage leveren, op de piano begeleid door Ruud Huijbregts.
CantaTU is een koor van ongeveer 25 personen, merendeels medewerkers van de TU/e. Repetities zijn elke maandag in de middagpauze onder deskundige leiding van Ruud Huijbregts.

Lunch Concert TU/e Choir CantaTU
Monday April 18 CantaTU concerts in the Blue Hall of the Auditorium at 12.45.
The program focuses on songs of several European countries. Parts of the ‘Songbook’ edited for EuropaCantat XVII are performed. The choir sings in the 4 favourite languages of Dutch people, and also in Zulu, Danish, Ukraine, Retro-Roman.
Martijn Willemsen and Martin Boschman, 2 tenors of CantaTU will perform some songs, accompanied on the piano by Ruud Huijbregts.
CantaTU is a choir of about 25 persons, mainly employees of TU/e. Rehearsals are every Monday at lunch time professionally directed by Ruud Huijbregts. For information about the membership of the choir please contact Jos Coenen (p.j.e.m.coenen@tue.nl)
Informatie Expertise Centrum | Nieuwe, verbeterde opzet tijdschriftlijsten
De tijdschriftenlijsten op de website van de Bibliotheek TU/e (www.tue.nl/bib) zijn in een aantal opzichten sterk verbeterd. Er staan nu veel meer tijdschriften op, de lijsten bevatten per titel veel meer informatie en het is nu mogelijk om een of meer eigen lijsten samen te stellen.
Naast een alfabetische lijst is er ook een lijst op onderwerp. Hiervoor wordt de Library of Congress classificatie gebruikt.

In de lijst die tot nu toe werd gepresenteerd via de standaard link op de homepage van de Bibliotheek stonden ongeveer 10.000 titels. In de nieuwe lijst zijn er dat ruim 14.000 geworden. Dat komt omdat er de laatste jaren steeds meer tijdschriften toegankelijk zijn geworden voor medewerkers en studenten van de TU/e.
Journal lists revised
The journal lists on the Library TU/e website have been improved considerably in several ways. The number of titles has increased, more information is given for each title, and you can now compile one or several personal lists.
Beside an alphabetic list there is now also a list by subject, based on the Library of Congress classification.

More titles
The list which was so far presented via the standard link on the TU/e Library homepage comprised some 10,000 titles. In the new list, as ever more journals have come available for TU/e staff and students, that number has risen to over 14,000.
