In Vienna you can teach a robot to walk in a straight line, in Rome you can engross yourself in tech & energy solution of the future in the course Power rEvolution. If you wish to attend a training course in entrepreneurship you can select ‘Do you have business plans tonight?’ in Brussels. These are just a few examples of more than fifty courses that will be organized this summer.
“Students get a glimpse of a country’s cultural life, visit companies or fight each other in groups in a so-called ‘engineering competition’. It is a combination between enjoyable outings and an instructive time”, says Frank Schoenaker, chairman of BEST Eindhoven and a student of Applied Physics.
This winter he himself went to Russia. “What I do find special about it is that you get to know many different people during summer courses. For two weeks you spend a lot of time with a group of about thirty people who share the same interests, but have different backgrounds. This enables you to compare student life in different cities that have universities of technology.” Schoenaker finds it interesting to observe the differences in study culture between countries in northern and southern Europe. “For example, the lecturing method in Greece differs from that in Finland. In Finland professors focus on interaction with students. In Greece this is far less so”.
BEST is a non-profit and non-political organization. The only condition is registration as a student at TU/e. No membership of any organization is required. If you can be placed, you will go to another European country for two weeks and in addition to traveling expenses this will cost you 45 euros at most. The costs involved are so low thanks to the participation by sponsors./.
