In Memory Of

On Monday 14th January 2008, we were shocked to learn about the sudden passing away of our PhD researcher Mr. Tobias Samual Mufuruki, due to a serious illness.
Tobias had just returned from Tanzania, where he had carried out field research for six months as part of his PhD project. He started his PhD research 2 years ago within the Construction Technology Group of the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning of the TU Eindhoven. To support this research he received a NUFFIC fellowship which was administrated by the Technology for Sustainable Development / Technologie voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling (TDO) Office of the TU, where he was a welcome guest.
Prior to his work in Eindhoven, Mr Tobias Mufuruki was employed at the University College of Lands and Architectural Studies (UCLAS) in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. His received his Master of Science degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Ghent (Belgium), having written a thesis for which he received a special ecology prize.
Tobias was a sociable and well-balanced person as well as an intelligent, promising and enthusiastic scientist, with a great interest in environmental issues. His PhD colleagues characterised him as a friendly, obliging man, who was quick to laugh and always ready to help.
In Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, he leaves behind his wife and two young children, of whom he always spoke with love and pride. The youngest child is only six months old. Tobias Mufuruki reached the age of 38.
We remember him as a very pleasant and committed colleague. We wish his wife and children strength in bearing the loss of their beloved husband and father.
On behalf of the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning,
