Each apartment will have its own kitchen and bathroom with a shower, washbasin and toilet. There are 42 studio apartments, with surfaces varying from 27 to 36 square meters (rentals 240 to 260 euros). Four apartments will have living-rooms and separate bedrooms with a total floor surface of 52 square meters (rental at most 350 euros). In order to realize 46 units, an extra storey will be built on top of the existing premises.

“We are taking into account the accommodation of short-stayers and have also reserved funds to furnish these apartments”, Vestide spokeswoman Hannie de Groot informs us. “Should it appear that these living units are too expensive for that specific group, for instance, then the units will be let to ordinary students.” Vestide will make a final decision about the target group this summer, in consultation with the educational institutes.

Rembrandt
There are also plans to build new student units at another location near the center. Accommodation agency Wooninc. wants to erect an apartment building with 63 studio apartments for students at the location of the former Rembrandt cinema, where the temporary discotheque Club was accommodated for a couple of years. Its completion has been planned for the end of 2010. The demolition permit has already been applied for./.
