Energy Day

2 april 2009 - While the economic crisis sucks up a great deal of attention in the media, the more serious long-term problems are at risk of disappearing into the background: the climate change, which also results from the consumption of fossil fuels, and the increasing energy requirement worldwide. In an English-language lecture on the fourth Energy Day physicist Jan Terlouw devotes attention inter alia to Concentrated Solar Power (CSP), i.e. large-scale solar power stations. This option may be relatively unknown in the Netherlands, but in sun-drenched areas in particular it is definitely an alternative for fossil energy sources. Afterwards there will be an opportunity to enter into a discussion with Terlouw about our energy supply and the role to be played in this by the Netherlands and by Dutch researchers. The fourth Energy Day will be devoted to two subjects: Nuclear fusion and thermal solar energy. The lectures are intended for PhD candidates and Master students in the final year of their studies and will be in English. Tuesday 7 April, 16.00 hours, Blauwe Zaal, Auditorium.
