Rector Van Duijn: “The Minister refuses to get it”
11 februari 2010 - Minister Plasterk sees no reason whatsoever for another division of the one hundred million euros for the Veni, Vidi and Vici subsidies. Nevertheless he does recognize that the three universities of technology (TUs) in particular are getting back less from the transfer of research funds to the NWO (Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research). According to TU/e Rector prof. dr. ir. Hans van Duijn, Plasterk simply refuses to acknowledge the problem for political reasons. He calls the veiled suggestion of the Minister that the research at the three TUs may be of a lesser quality absolutely ‘shameful’.

Warning: nurses and huge rabbits
11 februari 2010 - As of Saturday 13 February the city will be the domain of rabbits, pirates, angels, a lot of Elvis Presleys and nurses. It is time for the Carnival again. This annual feast is celebrated especially in the Catholic southern parts of the Netherlands. From Saturday through Tuesday people will be feasting out in the street and in the pub. Everybody can join in, but preferably dressed up.
