Marathon running with colleagues
18 oktober 2007 - Kostas Kevrekidis did not used to care for running at all. Nevertheless on Sunday 14 October he ran the half-marathon of Eindhoven. This postdoc Quality and Reliability Engineering (QRE) of the Department of Technology Management was a member of one of the nine TU/e teams participating in the match. Kevrekidis: “It was a good experience.”

The idea of participating arose some six months ago during a lunch break. It was not long before a number of enthusiasts, including Kostas Kevrekidis, embraced the proposal. Although this Greek never cared for running at all, he was ready for a new challenge and decided to join.
The group sought advice from professor Aarnout Brombacher, an experienced runner. Soon his theoretical recommendations were converted into practical assistance; the professor started training the members and gradually prepared them for the marathon. “The training sessions started with fifteen minutes of running”, says Kevrekidis. “We got better and better, so that some of us sought for a greater challenge than the original target: the six-kilometer City Run. With a team of four we decided to take part in the half-marathon, a run of 21.1 kilometers.”
Kevrekidis and his colleagues ran in the so-called ‘LageLanden Bedrijvenloop’, a separate category within the half-marathon.Via the Eindhoven Students Sports Federation the group of Kevrekidis were able to register as a TU/e team, which came with the big benefit that they did not have to pay any starting fee members are included in the overall standings.
Kevrekidis about his run: “My time of 2.01.54 was just above my personal goal of 2 hours. The end of the track was heavy in particular. Now that it is over, I am happy with the result and with the experience.”/.
