1. What is the best advice anyone has ever given you?
“Phew. Let me think about that one. ‘Don’t only follow your mind, but your intuition as well’, is a good piece of advice. It works for me at any rate. I can’t seem to remember to whom I owe this wisdom, to be honest. I suppose that’s the effect of old age!”

2. What is your favorite spot?“
I actually have two. One is indoors and one outdoors. Both are in Eindhoven. Last year I moved to the ‘Witte Dorp’. There I have a big library, stretching across two floors. That’s where I feel at home. And outdoors? Many people are nagging about the alleged ugliness of Eindhoven. I don’t agree with them. I really like that unstructured variety of old industry, bits of greenery, rudimentary village streets and ambitious architecture.”

3. In whose shoes would you like to be?
“I am rather clumsy myself -just ask my wife- and I am definitely not a DIY man. So I really admire genuine craftsmen. On condition that he also takes size 45 -for I wouldn’t want them to pinch - I should like to be in the shoes of a restorer of antiques or a violin maker.”

4. Who at TU/e deserves a pat on the back?
“The TU/e students who last December with so much gusto did the pioneering work for Serious Reaction, the student action for the Glass House.” (HB)
