This course aims at TU/e teaching staff. Teachers and students from different cultures often have different expectations about teacher-student interaction, and different teaching and learning styles.
This course aims to shine a light on these differences, by providing insight in the mechanisms that play a role in the intercultural classroom.
You will begin by examining your own cultural values. Next we will take a look at common mismatches in an intercultural education setting. We will see an intercultural group of students at work, and identify some points of friction.
Finally you will investigate if you want to change your own course to accommodate a culturally heterogeneous group of students, and how that can be done.
The next edition of this course will be on December 15th 2010, from 9:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs.

Course ‘Teaching and learning in higher education’ for teachers (TRD01)
The course is intended for experienced and beginning teachers and post docs. This course is also the first course of the TU/e BKO training program.
The course offers a broad orientation on teaching activities and prepares for giving lectures and tutorials. Besides, this course is intended to develop your skills to design course and assessment plans. During the course participants will be actively involved in discussions by giving presentations and by giving feedback to each other.
The course ‘Teaching and learning in higher education’ for teachers will take place on
Tuesday 5 April (whole day), Thursday 7 April (morning) and Tuesday 12 April (whole day).

Drs. R.J. Dirksen verdedigt op maandag 28 februari zijn proefschrift tegen de bedenkingen van een commissie. Dit gebeurt vanaf 16.00 uur in zaal 5 van het Auditorium. De titel van het proefschrift luidt ‘On satellite observations of atmospheric composition and their interpretation’. Dirksen promoveert aan de faculteit Technische Natuurkunde. De promotoren zijn prof.dr. H.M. Kelder en prof.dr. P.F. Levelt.
