    English-language programming in the Parktheater

    The Reduced Shakespeare Company.

The Parktheater in Eindhoven is focusing more and more on the international community of Eindhoven in its programming. These days there are more shows in English than before, and the programmers are introducing more structure into this. Since the end of last year the whole website (www.parktheater.nl) is also available in English, while www.eindhoven-life.com announces all English-language activities.

“We have noticed that the need for English-language performances is on the increase”, says Brigitte Koolen, marketing and communication officer at the Parktheater. “That’s why we are working to introduce more structure into our programming. Last weekend, for example, the Parktheater hosted the international cabaret and comedy weekend, featuring performances by, among others, four English-language comedians.”

On Thursday February 24 there will be a Bollywood show and on Thursday March 10 the complete works of William Shakespeare will be performed by the Reduced Shakespeare Company. The latter performance presents a high-speed overview of all Shakespeare’s 37 plays. Thus, ‘Othello’ will be presented in the form of a rap and ‘Titus Andronicus’ as a cookery program. The Reduced Shakespeare Company has made a total of seven stage shows, two television specials and a number of radio shows, all of which have been performed for listeners and spectators worldwide.

Eindhoven’s Parktheater has existed since 1964 and features a highly varied programming of operas, intimate concerts, dance performances, plays and musicals. The building has three halls, seating 950, 520 and 250 persons. At the front there is a restaurant and an outdoor terrace. (HB)
