Good news for knowledge migrants: from 1 January 2008 they will no longer need to travel to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) in Rijswijk to file their application for a residence permit. As of the above date the Personnel and Organization Department (DPO) of the relevant department will post the written application for the residence permit. After this, the DPO will make an appointment for the person involved, so that the residence sticker may be collected at the new IND branch in Eindhoven. Formerly the town hall of the migrant’s place of residence took care of this, but that will not be possible anymore.

‘Men and Computers: an Upward Spiral’ is the title of the Holst lecture that will be presented on Thursday 22 November by prof. dr. Henk van der Vorst. The Utrecht mathematician, who was accorded emeritus status in 2005, is an authority in the field of applied scientific computer research.

During the coming winter dr. Yuko Kamikawa will have to adjust; the weather will prevent her from visiting her Favorite Place so frequently, namely the Genneper Parken in south Eindhoven.
